Washington DC Senior Expedition

Help support the Seniors at Northpoint Academy who will be spending 10 days in Washington DC this January. Your generous donation will not only allow the students to do research in the Nation's Capital, it will also help them get first-hand experience with The Supreme Court, The White House, The Library of Congress, and many other fundamental areas of our government.

Cambodia

In December and January, ten Northpoint students are traveling to Cambodia. This fall, these students are studying Cambodian language and history, and while in Cambodia they'll be experiencing Cambodia's ancient traditional culture. They'll take flute lessons from a master musician, work with a teenage folk dance ensemble, and spend a few days staying with a wedding music class in the countryside.

90% of Cambodia's traditional musicians died during the Khmer Rouge rule of 1975 to 1979, and the Northpoint students will be helping the surviving musicians continue their cherished traditions. At the end of the trip, the group will perform a service project, building a rehearsal space for a new music ensemble.
Northpoint's students will return to the US changed and deeply affected, having immersed themselves in a very different foreign culture, and prepared to be true citizens of the world.

Costa Rica and Suchitoto, El salvador

A group of nineteen students, from Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy are headed to Costa Rica and Suchitoto, El Salvador this coming May 2012. This opportunity is focused on an intense curriculum that includes a study of culture, language,  the economic and environmental effects of Food Production in Central America, to work on an organic and bio-dynamic farm, experience a variety of adventure sports and sightseeing excursions, participate in a home stay program and Spanish classes in a bilingual high school and make long-lasting relationships with Prescott’s Sister City, Suchitoto, El Salvador.  Participants will spend time cultivating relationships at two schools and participating in a variety of volunteer projects in several impoverished communities.

The students that are going on this experience, in May 2012, will undoubtedly come back changed individuals, more inclined to be active, engaged U.S. citizens with a unique understanding of life outside of their own borders.

We are asking you to consider an investment in these young people, through a charitable donation.  We are hoping that our local businesses, families and individuals will make a donation of $100 each, with our goal of finding 100 businesses in the tri-city area willing to do this.  Realizing that we need to raise over $22,000 to make this a reality, we are hoping that you find a way to generously support this learning experience for our northern Arizona youth!
